CMA Exam Score Release and Results: What Indian Candidates Need to Know

After sitting a CMA exam part, the wait for results is one of the more anxious periods in the certification journey. Indian candidates consistently ask the same questions: when exactly will results come, where do they check them, and what do the scores mean. Why CMA Results Take Six Weeks

Human grading of essay and CBQ responses: Each exam part includes either two essay questions or case-based questions (CBQs) that require written or structured analytical responses. These cannot be machine-graded. The IMA uses trained reviewers who grade all responses from the same testing window together after the window closes. This ensures scoring consistency across candidates who sat the exam on different days within the same window.

MCQ threshold check before essay grading: A candidate must score at least 50% on the multiple-choice section before their essay or CBQ responses are graded at all. If you fall below the MCQ threshold, the essay section is not reviewed. This two-stage grading adds time to the process.

Border-score review: When a candidate's raw score converts to a scaled score close to the 360 passing threshold, the IMA conducts a secondary review of that candidate's responses. This quality check adds time but ensures that candidates on the borderline are not incorrectly failed or passed.

The IMA releases scores from each testing window in a batch after all of these steps are complete. No individual candidate receives their result earlier than others from the same window, regardless of when during the window they sat the exam.

Projected CMA Result Release Dates for 2026

The IMA releases results approximately six weeks after the end of the final month of each testing window. Because each testing window closes at a fixed date, the projected release dates are predictable.

These dates are projections based on the IMA's consistent six-week historical pattern. The IMA does not publish exact score release dates in advance. If the testing window is extended for any reason, results are released six weeks after the new closing date, not the original one. One important note for Indian candidates: if you sat the exam on January 2 and another candidate sat on January 30, both receive results on the same day in mid-April. How to Check Your CMA Results in India

Results are delivered in two ways simultaneously on the release date.

Email notification: The IMA sends an email to your registered address on the day results are published. The email states your score and pass or fail status. A printed paper score report is also mailed by the IMA approximately two to three weeks after the digital release. Understanding Your CMA Score

The CMA exam uses a scaled scoring system. Your raw score (the actual number of questions answered correctly) is converted to a scaled score between 0 and 500. The minimum passing score is 360 out of 500 for each part. Parts are scored independently. Passing Part 1 and failing Part 2 does not affect your Part 1 score.

The Performance Report is the most actionable information available after a failed attempt. Identify the content areas rated Unsatisfactory or Marginal and prioritize those in your retake preparation. Do not spread study time evenly across all topics: concentrate on the areas where the report shows you fell short.

One important clarification for Indian candidates: the Performance Report is sent to your registered email by Prometric, not by the IMA. Ensure the email address in your Prometric account matches your active inbox. If you receive a paper score report from the IMA by mail, that is a separate document from the Performance Report.

Retaking a Failed Part: Process and Timing

A failed part does not affect your status on the other part. If you passed Part 1 and failed Part 2, your Part 1 score stands and your three-year program window continues. You can re-register for the failed part immediately after results are released, but you must wait until the next available testing window to sit it again.

Retake registration requires a new exam registration fee ($545 for professional members, $407 for students). The CMA entrance fee is not repaid for retakes. Your three-year program window continues from your original entry date. If both parts have not been passed within three years of the entrance fee payment, all passed scores expire and the entrance fee must be repaid to re-enter the program.

Most preparation advisors recommend a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks of focused preparation between a failed attempt and a retake, concentrating specifically on the areas the Performance Report identified as Marginal or Unsatisfactory.
